87th Infantry

1985.004a State Color Horstmann Brothers and Company v1p236
87th Infantry, State Color. Composed of men from York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Allegheny, Lawrence, and Franklin counties, the 87th was organized in September 1861. The state color was presented to seven companies of the regiment in Monument Square of Baltimore on February 22, 1862. In late 1864, those who did not re-enlist took the small remnant of the state color home and gave it to George Hay, the regiment's first colonel. The rest of the regiment was mustered out of service on June 29, 1865.

1985.004b Record Banner Unknown v1p236
87th Infantry, Record Banner. Because most of the flag was shot to pieces, the survivors made this small banner with the names of the major engagements the 87th fought. The rest of the regiment was mustered out of service on June 29, 1865.
